World Renowned Surfing
Yamba and neighboring Angourie are known for their awesome point-breaks. Learn to surf with one of the local surf schools here in Yamba, or check out Angourie Beach just 5kms away, which is listed as a Surf Heritage area. Don’t miss the Pippi Beach Classic, a popular local surfing event.
Fishing
Yamba is famous for its fishing and is home to one of the largest commercial fishing fleets in New South Wales. Yamba features a deep marina and a variety of headlands, estuaries and beaches with flat rock shelves and sea walls offering fantastic locations to fish.
Whale Watching
The Humpback and the Southern Right Whale are the two most common species of whales to be sighted from the Yamba coastline. Migrating north to calve, their greatest numbers can be seen during August and September with various land-based vantage points around Yamba. September is the peak month for their southward migration, when it is likely to also see the baby humpbacks, born a few weeks earlier in the tropical calving grounds. It is an experience not to be missed.
Seafood Events
Make sure you make your way to the Yamba Seafood Expo held in October and taste local seafood delicacies such as the famed Yamba Prawns and Wooli Oysters.
Wildlife
Yamba is such a relaxing destination where even the golfers need to play around numerous kangaroos lazing all over the fairways! You will find a fascinating array of unique flora and fauna in Yamba and the surrounding national parks and reserves – a photographers dream!
Yamba Markets
The Yamba River markets are held every 4th Sunday of the month – more of an event than a market – with local produce and homemade wares. Enjoy the festive atmosphere with entertainment and fun for everyone!
Leisure Pursuits
You name it – it’s all here in Yamba! The Yamba Golf and Country Club features a championship 18-hole course. The Yamba Bowling and Recreational Club is also a busy spot for a spot of lawn bowls. But it doesn’t stop there, go fishing, take a cruise to Illuka, or charter a boat, kite surf, wind surf, dive and photograph to your heart’s content with unlimited possibilities of things to do in one of the best climates in the world!
